Ok. So, I did it. My very first NICU page...nearly 6 years later! The preemie mom never really goes away, long after they actually arrive on the growth chart, even if it took almost 3 years! Thank you for this class and your kind comments Meghann, which encouraged me to stop overthinking those hard pages. Though this one is relatively "light" to start with, it is done!
Here is my page for Symmetrical balance. Easy as this style of balance is with page design, I actually struggled keeping things equal along that vertical centre
I had considerably more journaling for this page, but found the style to limit places to put it. I think my takeaway from this type of balance for me is that it will be good for those pages with minimal journaling.

What an amazing moment. Did you tuck extra journaling on the back? This is such a pivotal and amazing moment and the title and simplicity are perfect.
Thank you so much Tammy! I have pages and pages of journaling and about 500 photos for our time in the NICU. My initial intention was to do more journaling for this page, but because I did it for the class, I wasn't able to fit it "on show". It felt so great to actually do a page from that difficult time in our lives, as it had been something I avoided for so long. Currently I don't have extra journalling in back but thank you for mentioning it because I might just go back to do just that!
What an awesome idea, @beachgirl35 !

First- let me say a few things about the story. I'm in the same boat as you that I have not scrapped the NICU photos much- only the happy moments- the first time we did kangaroo care, mainly. SO, it's totally awesome of you to get this story down on paper. I'm completely jealous of you for keeping a journal during this time. I wasn't in the right frame of mind, I guess. A friend bought me a journal, and it still sits empty. =(
Now, the design. You totally hit the nail on the head with symmetrical balance! Not only that, but you just got everything perfect design-wise on this page, and it is really striking! This is a layout that I would totally stop to examine if I were flipping through an album.
I love Tammy's idea about adding additional journaling to the back if needed. You could have also taken out the black and white frame at the top and added your journaling there in a big rectangle before your title, too. OR, you could have written it, folded it and put it in that sweet little envelope as well. In any case, I think it is perfect & I really like that you wrote your journaling around your photo. Keep plugging away at creating these symmetrical designed layouts- I really love them. I've also done quite a few with TWO columns, in which I'm comparing two different things, side by side.
I'm so glad we are in it together! Those stories are HARD! I took a lot of photos and the journal was my savior. I'm not sure about your NICU set up, but ours had a mothers room that I was able to stay in because I was breastfeeding. It was incredibly difficult to be away from our daughters but thank both my mom and my mother and father in law for they each had one of them during that time. The nurses called me every 2-3 hours through the night, so those hours pumping, I let my heart pour out! Let's just say getting milk going for two babies is my proudest accomplishment! Anyway, those nights alone missing my girls at home (they were just 1 1/2 and 5 at the time), I was sad missing them and felt better writing.
My biggest regret was that I did not have any video. Looking back, I think sometimes and feel mad, sad, all kinds of bad but then I think about friends who weren't so blessed to take all of their babies home and with that, I let go of the bad feelings and move on.
Even if your journalling was not done at the time, it's ok...you can memory brainstorm and it will come back
Thank you so much for your kind comments on the design! The supplies were much loved when purchased and though not completely current, I took your amazing advice and just jumped right in! So happy I did!
I'm in the process of doing something like Tammy suggested...I'm so thankful she suggested that one...and have also thought of ways to add to I and love the idea of the columns!
