Required Supplies

-
Gesso Gesso is a primer, it is used to prepare our surface before adding paint. We will use it for one of the techniques shown in the class. There are many brands, I prefer heavy body gesso, as it warps cardstock less than the more fluid ones.
-
Acrylic Paint I will be using paint in two lessons. Any acrylic paint will work. My favorites are Dina Wakely, Amsterdam (student grade line widely available in Europe)and Liquitex.
-
Watercolors I will be using watercolors in a few lessons. Any type of watercolors will work with the techniques shown in the class.
-
Embossing Powder I love embossing stamped images with watercolors. I use American Crafts white embossing powder, but any brand and color would work.
-
Embossing ink Used for embossing, like Versamark ink.
-
Stamping Ink Choose your favorite colors, I use a variety by Studio Calico's Color Theory, Hero Arts, Stampin' Up and more.
-
Stencils Stencils are one of my most used tools. Any will work for the techniques shown in this class, but I always recommend investing in stencils with basic shapes, like circles, triangles, as they are the most versatile.
-
Stamps Outlined images of flowers are my favorite to use with mixed media. I use a couple of sets by Mama Elephant and Altenew.
-
Modeling Paste This paste (also known as texture paste, embossing paste, molding paste) is another go to supply when using stencils and mixed media. I buy a big tub from the local art supplies store ( the brand I get is a German brand called Guardi, which is widely available in Austria ).
-
Gel Medium Great to use for resist techniques and as glue. It comes in different finishes, I prefer matte.
-
Colored Pencils I use Faber Castell Polychromos in the class, but any oil or wax based pencils will work.
-
Gouache Paint Gouache is basically opaque watercolor, and I use it in one lesson in the class. I usually prefer the look of watercolors for their translucency, but it's always fun to try new mediums.
-
Patterned papers and Embellishments I use my favorite companies, a mixture of Crate Paper, Maggie Holmes, American Crafts and Felicity Jane kits.
-
Cardstock My favorite is American Crafts white heavy weight textured cardstock.
-
Watercolor paper/mixed media paper When using lots of water, I like to use watercolor paper or any paper that can hold a lot of liquids without warping.
-
Transparencies I buy ink jet transparencies. They are great for adding different layers, and work so well with modeling paste and stencils.
-
Palette Knife I use the plastic ones by Ranger or cheap ones from the local art supplies store.
-
Brushes Any brush will work. Best is to have separate brushes for watercolors and separate ones for acrylic paint.
